A Phone Call with Greg from Our Dream in the Woods

Building their dream home – and teaching themselves as they go.

Greg and Beth moved back to their hometown in Idaho, where Beth had a beautiful property nestled within the forest.

There, they saw the potential to build their dream home. 

It started with getting a mill. When Gregs brother-in-law Erik told Greg he should get a mill, he set his mind to it and found Woodland Mills. After buying his HM130MAX Portable Sawmill, Greg knew the first thing he needed to do was get logs and build a mill house to protect it.

Greg made sure the mill house was big enough to fit his loader and that it had electricity so he could mill into the night when he needed to. Then came preparing for their barn build.

Originally, Greg and Beth had planned to build a barn and a house separately. But after starting the foundation work for the barn, they realized they could have both for the price of one. Greg set out to find blueprints for a barndominium build that would suit their needs, and once he found it, the work began.

After ordering 5 truckloads of logs, and milling thousands and thousands of board feet (Greg estimates about 60,000bf so far,) they are getting so close to finishing their build. With a few more interior finishings like flooring and walls, they should be move in ready in no time.
