Sawyer Showcase:
An Afternoon With: Stephan from Zeit Woodworks
Stephan got his mill in 2021, and the hobby he gets out of it has changed his life for the better.
Our last visit from the fall was to Stephan from Zeit Woodworks. Stephan started his milling journey in 2019 with a chainsaw mill, and in 2021 he decided it was time to upgrade to the HM126 Portable Sawmill Woodlander. From there, Stephan started doing custom furniture and other pieces.
Eventually, Stephan decided he wanted to learn more than just furniture making, with a little help from his friend Andrew, Stephan picked up Turning, and is now completely obsessed with it.
"I sign all my bowls like this... I would write O.G.D.. Only Good Days. Thats how I feel about this, you know, it could be snowing, it could be plus thirty it could be raining and minus 5.. they are always good days when i'm milling... for me, its been a life changer."
Stephan also talks about the community that comes with this type of work, and how grateful he is to be able to meet people with similar interests, and even teach people who are interested in milling and turning.
Check out the video from our visit with Stephan, where he shows us the whole process of turning a log into beams, beams into blanks, and those blanks into beautiful bowls, vases and other handcrafted items. You can also follow along with Stephan and his work, as well as the craft shows he frequently sells at on his Instagram at @zeitwoodworks.
Thanks for the visit, Stephan!
