every project starts with woodland mills

Delbert received his Woodland Mills HM122 Portable Sawmill in June 2023 and has since logged nearly 80 hours on the machine. Looking back, it’s been at the center of almost every project he’s taken on around his property.

“When I first got started, my setup was pretty simple. I had the mill sitting on blocks and 4x4s, nothing fancy, just enough to get up and running. Even with that basic setup, the HM122 performed right from the start. After milling the first four courses of logs for my cabin, I relied entirely on the mill for everything that followed.” says Delbert.

Over the years of owning his HM122, Delbert has kept busy with an impressive range of projects. It didn’t take long for him to realize that with this mill, the possibilities were nearly endless. Starting with something practical, he built a lumber storage shed, an addition that made a big difference in keeping materials organized, dry, and ready for use.

After Delbert completed the shed, he moved on to building a permanent base for the sawmill itself. Having a solid, dedicated foundation improved both accuracy and efficiency, and it made day-to-day milling much more enjoyable.

"Once the base was complete, I tackled what felt like a natural next step, a full sawmill shed to house the HM122 Portable Sawmill." Delbert explains. "Being able to work out of the weather has made a huge difference and really turned the whole setup into a proper workspace."

Improving workflow

Now that Delbert had the building side of things well underway, he realized it was time to turn his attention to cleanup. That’s when he made the decision to purchase a Woodland Mills WC46 4" Wood Chipper to help manage the limbs and debris from his milling and harvesting work more efficiently.

"Paired with a 19 PTO horsepower tractor, it has proven to be a reliable and efficient setup for processing material that would otherwise take a lot of time and effort to deal with manually. The chipper has performed flawlessly, easily feeding in brush and small branches and turning them into manageable chips, which has helped keep the work area cleaner and more organized," says Delbert.

This has become a valuable part of Delbert’s overall workflow, saving him time on cleanup and allowing him to stay focused on continuing his projects.

the power of community

Delbert has been an important member of the Woodland Mills community, consistently showcasing his impressive builds, answering questions, and sharing his experience with others, whether they’re just starting their sawmill journey or have been at it for years.

He’s become an all-star contributor within the community, and Woodland Mills is proud to have such a motivated and appreciative individual who truly enjoys working outdoors with his Woodland Mills equipment. He also happens to have quite an impressive Woodland Mills hat collection!

from standing timber to finished structures

One of the most rewarding parts for Delbert is knowing that every log and every board used in these projects came from his own trees and was milled right on the Woodland Mills HM122 Portable Sawmill. From standing timber to finished structures, it’s all been done by hand, step by step.

"What started as a simple setup," Delbert explains, "has grown into a complete, functional milling operation and it all began with that first cut."
